How it all began

Botanically based - we use dozens of plant and herb extracts as active agents. Many of these extracts have been shown to be beneficial in supporting vibrant and healthful-looking skin. Our herbs are standardized meaning you get the active component of each herb for the best results.

Formulated without mineral oil - Arbonne's skin care and cosmetic products do not contain mineral oil. We choose to use other types of oils that have moisturizing and conditioning properties such as jojoba, almond, and wheat germ oils. Mineral oil has occlusive properties, which are often beneficial in medical applications but Arbonne believes these properties are not beneficial for daily use in a skin care regimen because of the potential disruption of normal skin functions. Formulated without Ethyl (Rubbing) Alcohol - Arbonne's product formulation philosophy states "no alcohol", so why do you see cetyl alcohol or cetearyl alcohol in an ingredient list? The word "alcohol" simply describes an oxygen-hydrogen group attached to a carbon. There are many types of alcohols used in cosmetic formulations - some beneficial fatty alchols - which include cetyl and cetearyl, and some non-beneficial, which include ethyl alcohol or ethanol. Ethal alcohol, commonly known as rubbing alcohol, is medically used as a topical antiseptic, astringent and antibacterial and is considered by Arbonne to be too strong and too drying for application on the skin. Arbonne does use complex alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl which are known as "fatty alcohols." These alcohols do not have the drying effects of ethanol and are safely used as emollients and emulsifiers. Emollients provide conditioning and moisturizing while emulsifiers are safely used for thickening and giving body to a formulation.

pH correct so you don't strip your skin of it's natural protection. You have a protective "acid mantle" with a pH level of 5.5 which is exactly where Arbonne formulates its products. Anything more or less disrupts this delicate balance. If the acid mantle is stripped by using harsh detergents or soaps, the skin becomes more susceptible to unwanted bacteria. By maintaining the correct pH level, your skin can do its job to control heat, dispose of toxins, and protect the body from germs, dirt, gases, etc.

Hypoallergenic - Cosmetics that claim to be hypoallergenic have generally been formulated without the use of certain ingredients that are known to frequently cause allergic reactions. Hypoallergenic does not mean nonallergenic - there is no such thing.

Dermatologist tested and children's products are pediatrician tested. Our products are tested for irritancy under the supervision of a Dermatologist. The tests are performed by independent laboratories. Did you know that "dermatologist recommended" only means the doctor passes out samples!?

Never Tested on Animals - testing on animals is not only cruel, but it means you are looking for negative reactions. Arbonne tests on people because with our pure, safe and beneficial philosophy, we're looking for positive results. There's no need to test on animals. Learn more by reading the book, Mad Cowboy.

Formulated without animal products or by-products such as tallow, gelatin, or hydrogenated animal protein. These by-products come from rendering plants.

Formulated without dyes or chemical fragrances.

Use Safe Preservatives - we use very low levels (less than 1% broad spectrum) of preservatives to protect our herbs and botanicals. The FDA watches preservatives very closely. The water and the oil side of formulas must be protected. Natural antioxidants such as C, A, or grape seed extract, only protect the oil side of a formula. If you don't protect the water base, the product is subject to yeast, mold and bacteria. Be careful of "all natural" claims! Arbonne does not use phthalates as preservatives in any formula.
